Tips to greater savings on Labor Day sales this weekend

For those of use who delayed massive back to school shopping in wait for the fall clearances and Labor Day sales, this is our weekend! While clearance racks and Labor Day markdowns offer great savings, there are ways to save even more this holiday weekend!
Look for coupons and promo codes. Check for extra coupons and special online promotions on store websites and in advertisement circulars before heading to the stores. If you are shopping online, check for promotional codes at sites such as RetailMeNot or Dealtaker.com before completing the purchase! You may be able to combine codes for free shipping or a deeper discount!
Sign up for store email newsletters before the weekend. You may get “insider” last minute coupons and often a bonus, sign up incentive just for registering your email address.
Register for store reward cards. These aren’t just for grocery stores anymore. Shoe stores, toy stores, clothing retailers and more are now offering customer loyalty programs. Gymboree recently added a rewards card program.
Take advantage of your current grocery store or drug store loyalty cards. Giant Eagle, for example, offers Fuel Perks points (sometimes doubling them) for gift card purchases. If you expect that you’ll be spending $25 or $50 at an eligible retailer, buy the gift card from Giant Eagle and save money on gas for your shopping at other stores!
Watch for sales in unexpected stores! Due to lower sales this year, you may see sales at stores, such as Abercrombie and Fitch, that aren’t generally known for them.
Remember Layaway? If big ticket items are on your holiday shopping list—it may be a good plan to buy a few heavily discounted things now for the upcoming holidays! Stores like Kmart, Burlington Coat Factory and Sears offer plans—or you can check online at services such as eLayaway for online merchants using their service to offer the plans.
Don’t Forget Second Hand Shops. These stores have sales too! Labor Day is a great time for them to clear summer inventory. For instance, Pickerington's Children’s Orchard is having their “Fill a Bag Saturday” event for summer clothes on Saturday. You can get a great deal on outfits for next Spring or Summer!
Use store credit wisely. If you need a new dishwasher or large item, taking advantage of Labor Day Sales combined with store’s frequent “12 Months Same as Cash Offer” can make a lot of sense—if you truly intend to pay for that item before the card starts building interest and fees.
